Adventures In Meteorites

About Me

(Above) Me amid saguaro cacti.

I was born in Durango, Colorado and raised in northern New Mexico. I moved to Phoenix, Arizona in the fall of 1986 and have pretty much been here ever since. In 1998 I happened to see Bob Haag on the Discovery Channel talking about meteorites, and I became immediately interested in these amazing extra-terrestrial stones. I was so impressed with what the "Meteorite Man" had to say that I vowed to find a meteorite for myself.

The very next day I went to the library and read as much as I could on the subject as well as contacted a few well known meteorite hunters. Jim Kriegh was one of the first people I met, he unselfishly schooled me in the art of meteorite hunting. Jim told me what kind of metal detector to buy and also offered directions to the Gold Basin strewn field which is where I ultimately found my first meteorite.

To date I have found thousands of meteorites in many different strewn field locations including Gold Basin, Franconia, Holbrook, and Glorieta Mountain, as well as dry lake beds like Red Dry Lake, Willcox Playa and others. Currently, I'm enjoying hunting meteorites as often as possible as I love the excitement of being out in the wilderness finding meteorites. After all a meteorite to me is much more than a mere rock from space, it is at the very least, the only extra-terrestrial object one can own.
